A dingy sweatshop with little children sweating out for 16 hours straight, earning in pennies, making clothes and shoes for you!
Yes that's still a reality for some of the most popular Fashion brands you know.
Despite being illegal in many countries this is still prevalent particularly in developing regions. Unsurprisingly, these are the very places where fast fashion brands often source their products.
The first step to eradicating child labour is to admit that it exists and that if we benefit from it, we are involved. Often with the clothes we wear, food we eat and tech we crave. So here's what you could do instead:
Demand transparency - Avoid brands that don't disclose who makes their clothes. If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably comes at a hidden human cost.
Support ethical brands - Choose companies that prioritize transparency and fair labor practices.
Consider donating - Organisations like Anti-Slavery International are actively working to end child labor. Your contributions can make a difference.
Look for certifications - Look for third-party certifications like Fair Trade International, BCorp, or Fair Wear Association to guide your purchases. Websites like Project Cece can help you filter and find fairtrade fashion brands.
