INTRODUCTION: There's this interesting location that has been in existance since the 10th Century, but people have lived there for thousands of years. They built a fortress in the high cliffs that towered above the plains in the 1200's and then the fortress became a village for the surrounding shepherds.
Les Baux-de-Provence is already steeped in history, and its unique Christmas traditions must add a magical layer to its charm. The juxtaposition of modern Christmas elements—like twinkling lights and carols—with ancient, possibly pagan rituals that make the holiday season there feel deeply rooted and meaningful.
Many old traditions, like feasting, lighting fires, or crafting nativity figures (santons in Provence), often merge with Christian customs, creating a rich cultural tapestry.
