👇🏻Here you’ll find 10 favorite kid friendly hikes in or near Seattle.
Low mileage (most of these hikes are 3 miles or less), exciting features (lakes, waterfalls, view points, story boards, bridges, etc.), and mostly flat.
🌟AND BONUS—Each hike is in or at least within an hour’s drive of the city of Seattle.
🥾 Discovery Park Loop Trail—2.8 miles round trip with views of the Puget Sound, trees to climb, and a playground at the end!
🥾Carkeek Park—2.5 miles round trip from the McAbee entrance to the beach.
🥾 Washington Park Arboretum—take a photo of the map at the visitors center, and explore the impressive plant collections, waterfront trail is also an excellent option if it hasn’t been too rainy.
🥾Seward Park—2.4 mile paved loop (stroller friendly) with options to explore forested gravel and dirt paths throughout the peninsula.
🥾Ravenna/Cowen Park—4.5 miles of trails, we like to park in the small parking lot near the playground on the Ravenna side, and take the trail (past the bathrooms) to the wide creek area, then continue under a large pedestrian bridge overhead.
🥾 Schmitz Preserve Park—1.7 miles round trip, babbling creeks, old growth, alligator tree, opportunity to end the hike at Alki Community Center/playground.
🥾 St. Edwards State Park—about 3 miles starting at the Water Tower Trail, then South Ridge to Beach, and back up the North Trail. AMAZING playground, access to Lake Washington, historic sites. Discover Pass required.
🥾 Coal Creek Falls: Cougar Mt.—2.5 miles round trip to waterfall (best in spring), many options to extend the hike.
🥾 Swamp Monster Trail: Tiger Mt.—1 mile round trip with placards along the trail that tell you a story about the mythical Swamp Monster, extensions to the hike will take you to an old bus, lakes, and even further…caves! Discover Pass required.
🥾 Evans Creek Preserve—Maps throughout the park for easy navigation. Varied terrain from wooded paths and boardwalks to open meadows. Lupines in late spring!
