I've been coming to this railway crossing at mile 99.9 of CP Rail's Laggan Sub. for 25 years. It is nestled in the heart of Banff National Park, at the Castle Mountain crossing, halfway between Banff and Lake Louise. For this video I filmed the entire train sets, which I don't usually do.
This is an assortment of freight trains that travelled on the mainline over 3 days when I wasn't skiing. Over the years I've counted an average of 22-24 trains per 24 hour period here, averaged out during a 3 day stay each time. Our motel is right by this crossing, and is one of the few spots that CP trains blow their horns in Banff National Park.
The final 40 hours, after some avalanches were cleaned up at the spiral tunnels west of here, saw an average of 27 trains a day go by.
Definitely not as busy as the CN mainline through Jasper, Alberta, but still enjoyable if you are a train buff.
