Описание: I was a volunteer in the 1980's & 90's, photographing graffiti and architectural aspects of the old, ramshackle Napa Valley Opera House, prior to it's eventual restoration as a community arts center in the city of Napa, California. Way back in 1913 someone scratched the following message onto a dressing room door beneath the stage. (the miss-spelling is the authors) "Know one but me will know who wrote this - June 9, 1913 - I had a pleasant dream in Napa. I dreamed she came back and we made up. The hard bitter past was forgotten. Only a dream - don't erase this, if I ever come again I want to read it." The actor who wrote these words did so anonymously. 6 months later, the theater closed due to on going problems with damage from the San Francisco earthquake in 1906, and the onrush of the fledgling talking picture phenomenon - the movies. At any rate, it is unlikely that he ever got to read his lines again. This message stayed with me, and I wrote a poem, as much about my experience at finding the message, as the stark sadness of the message itself. I call it, The Minstrel's Dream.
