Institutionalizing evidence in rural development policy in India
On 9 September 2025, 3ie brought together policymakers, researchers, implementers, donors, and self-help group members for a shared dialogue on lessons from the Ministry of Rural Development’s Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission. This panel examined what institutionalizing evidence in rural development policy in India really entails, offering high-level reflections on findings from DAY-NRLM and other evaluations and exploring how these resonate with diverse stakeholders. Panellists discussed the practical use of data and evidence in shaping programmes, reflected on how evidence can be systematically embedded into decision-making processes, and shared perspectives on the opportunities and challenges of strengthening an ecosystem where research consistently informs policy and implementation.
