Challenges and Future Opportunities for States in Net Metering

Описание: The popularity of net metering has surged among residential customers due to significant incentives by more than 40 states allowing customers to sell excess renewable power to the utility. Accompanying that growth, however, is a burgeoning debate over the most appropriate way to continue incentivizing the use of distributed and renewable energy resources in the most equitable fashion.

This webinar featured two experts providing both an industry and state regulatory perspective on the regulated utility rate-making models that influence net metering programs, recent and upcoming rate cases and policy trends, and an overview of proposed solutions for state policymakers. The panelists shared their opinions on the best approaches to capture the value that distributed energy provides while recognizing the real and substantial fixed and variable costs incurred by utilities to provide 24-7 service to customers. Addressing the complex and unique factors in each state's net metering policy, however, will require a collaborative approach by state legislators and regulators to ensure that any changes are made through a fair and transparent process.
