James Cleverly made the trip to 'demonstrate the UK’s unwavering solidarity with the Israeli people following Hamas’s terrorist attacks', the Foreign Office said. At least 1,100 Israelis were killed during Hamas's incursion, and a similar number of Palestinians have since been killed in Israel's retaliatory attacks on the Gaza Strip.
