The single "Beauty and the Beast" was released four months prior to the release of the album 'Celine Dion' and it became an instant hit. The word is that it’s after hearing this legendary movie theme on the radio that Prince wanted to write a song for Celine.

"With This Tear" is one of the last songs recorded for the album 'Celine Dion' stealing a spot on the album which was originally reserved for "Calling You" from the film 'Bagdad Cafe', which Celine regularly sang in concert at the time.

Celine recorded "With This Tear" at the Studio Morin Heights on René's 50th birthday, January 16, 1992.

C’est en ces mots que Céline rend grâce à Prince dans les remerciements de l’album 'Celine Dion' paru en 1992.

À l’époque, le simple « Beauty and The Beast » avait été diffusé 4 mois avant la parution de l’album 'Celine Dion'. Ce fut un succès instantané et la chanson trouva immédiatement sa place aux palmarès. La légende veut que ce soit après avoir entendu la chanson-thème du célèbre film d’animation à la radio que Prince voulut écrire pour Céline.

« With This Tear » est une des dernières chansons à avoir été enregistrées pour l’album 'Celine Dion'. Elle remplacera in extremis la chanson « Calling You » du film 'Bagdad Cafe' que Céline interprétait régulièrement en concert à l’époque et qui devait faire partie de l’album.

Céline a enregistré la chanson le 16 janvier 1992 au Studio Morin-Heights au Québec, soit le jour même du 50e anniversaire de René.
