An all-white Southern Baptist Church for many decades until the advent of "white flight" completely changed the surrounding demographics, Franklin Avenue Baptist Church was undergoing a time of intense growth from small beginnings at the time of this recording. Today, under the leadership of Fred Luter, Jr. who became pastor in 1986, Franklin Avenue Baptist is one of the largest churches in New Orleans.
