Andy Carvell leads the User Retention Team at SoundCloud. He has 14 years knowledge of the mobile industry with proven track record in delivering a range of mobile products and services worldwide. At Mobile Convention Amsterdam Andy explains how his team has driven user retention at music platform SoundCloud.

SoundCloud is a Swedish online audio distribution platform based in Berlin that enables its users to upload, record, promote, and share their originally-created sounds. According to the company’s data, in December 2014, the service attracts more than 175 million unique monthly listeners, while content creators upload about 12 hours worth of audio every minute. Founders Alexander Ljung and Eric Wahlforss are the chief executive officer (CEO) and chief technical officer (CTO), respectively.

Andy Carvell shares insights from SoundCloud with his audience on deep linking, A/B-testing, engagement and the SoundCloud community. The community functionalities are driving user retention, Andy Carvell explains the hearts which users hand out to like someone’s music on the SoundCloud platform. “We did a campaign once to let people hand out more likes. The results were stunning: 2,4 million people who saw the campaign liked one or more songs.”
