On February the 9th 2024, a Bombardier Challenger 604 tail number N823KD operated by Hop a Jet was scheduled from Columbus-Ohio State University Airport to Naples Airport Florida, a flight that takes a little over 2 hours of flight time.
At around 1300 local time the Challenger with a total of 5 occupants on board took-off from runway 27L at Columbus-Ohio airport and headed southwards towards Florida. With a steady climb up to FL400 the Challenger reached its cruising level, everything looked like a normal flight. The weather at destination was friendly with good visibility and winds from the south.
Roughly an hour and 10 minutes after take-off the Business Jet left FL400 and descended into Naples area. The crew prepared a landing for Runway 23 at Naples Airport and proceeded via a right hand downwind.
A couple of seconds later just before making the final turn to intercept the extended center line for runway 23, the aircraft was fully configured when the MASTER Warning lights and a triple chime went off.
Both engines failed or in a more precise way, they both flamed out within seconds to each other while the Jet was still 5nm from the runway at an altitude of only about 1.000 feet above ground level.
