A grieving father speaks to Barkha Dutt after losing his son, Anjel Chakma, to a brutal racist attack in Dehradun. A BSF jawan who has spent his life protecting the nation, he now says he is too afraid to send his children back to Uttarakhand.

He asks why, even after weeks, “no FIR was lodged in the beginning” and why “the police refused to accept our complaint.”
He alleges intimidation, claiming, “I believe the landlord is behind my son’s murder.”
Recounting the cruelty his son endured, he says, “My child tolerated racial slurs in silence. He reacted only when his mother and sister were abused.”
Pointing to systemic failure, he adds, “I don’t trust the Uttarakhand Police,” and demands, “CBI must investigate this case.”
A father who once felt pride in sending his children out to study now says, “I cannot afford to lose my other child.”
