Github actions is probably one of the most elite data engineering hacks we see experienced folks relying on.
Many Data Engineers don't realise that Github Runners, provisioned compute instances, can be used for a wide variety of production tasks, especially because Github provide you with a scheduler.
But this creates a huge problem - a lack of visibility. What happens when stuff runs in Github? How do you get alerted? Where is the metadata? How are those processes dependent on other processes?
Orchestra provides the platform integration for Github and other components of the Modern Data Stack or Cloud Stack.
In this video, we'll see how to connect Github Actions to Orchestra using a Personal Access Token ("PAT").
We'll run through the basics of a workflows directory and a run_dbt_core.yaml file, and understand where to save important artifacts like run_results.json() and manifest.json()
Finally, we'll show how you can bring visibility to your Githb Actions Workflows in literally minutes, so you can see how the best data teams take advantage of Github Actions alongside other pieces of core infrastructure.
