The 1980s was a boom era for the self-help phenomenon. The rise of the Sony Walkman and personal cassette tapes played a big role. But what other aspects of '80s culture fed into the trend? And how did that shift in our relationship to technology and each other foreshadow the technology and media landscape of our world today?
“Radiolab,” the award-winning podcast and radio show from WNYC Studios and senior producer Simon Adler presented a live multimedia event based on its "Mixtape" series exploring self-help, the power of these phrases, the cassette tapes that carried them and the ideas embedded within. The live podcast featured music from composer Alexander Overington and “Radiolab’s” iconic sound design.
