HISTORY OF SELA PASS (SOURCE : GOOGLE and LOCALS)
Sela Pass is named after a local woman named Sela, who heroically assisted an Indian soldier during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. The pass is also historically significant as the site of the Battle of Nuranang. In this battle, Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat single-handedly fought off the Chinese army for 72 hours, with help from Sela and her sister Noora. Both sisters were killed during the conflict, and the pass was named in Sela's honor.
Sino-Indian War (1962): The pass is known for the Battle of Nuranang, where Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat defended the area against the Chinese army.
During the battle, two Monpa girls, Sela and Noora, helped Rawat by supplying ammunition and food.
Sela and Noora were killed during the fighting. In honor of their bravery, the pass was named Sela Pass, and the Nuranang Falls were named after Noora.
Legacy: The story of Jaswant Singh Rawat and the two local women is a significant part of the local legend and history associated with the pass and the Tawang region
