Transcript: According to Drive Tesla, Elon Musk’s vision of an “ecological paradise” is taking shape around Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin. The company has officially submitted plans for what it's calling the GFTX Riverfront Eco-Park — a massive public green space designed to serve nearly 20,000 nearby households.

The proposal includes 25 miles of walking trails and 18 miles of biking paths, along with a Tesla-branded expo and sports complex featuring facilities for soccer, baseball, basketball, and tennis. Families can also look forward to a children’s playground, riverfront boardwalk, picnic areas, fishing zones, and a community orchard.

Tesla plans to preserve 290 acres of green space with 3.8 miles of direct Colorado River access. The automaker is also committing to plant 3,000 trees every year and maintain eight wildlife corridors, making the park both a community hub and a wildlife-friendly zone.

While there’s no official date for completion, the project marks a big step in fulfilling Musk’s 2020 promise to build more than just a factory. Giga Texas itself has already attracted over $5 billion in investment and employed more than 21,000 people in 2024, with long-term plans to grow that number to 60,000.
