Woman Steals Rental Car, Ends Chase With Two Crashes | FHP

Описание: On September 15, 2024, at approximately 12:45 p.m., I, Trooper J. Peters, was on routine patrol traveling west on East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Brooksville when a passing motorist stopped her vehicle and waved me down to gain my attention. Upon making contact with the motorist, I recognized her as Jowatha Lacarol Maner (Victim), positively identified by her Florida Driver's License.

The victim explained that she was on the shoulder of East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, near School Street, outside of the vehicle she was in possession of, when a subject identified as Cajetta Jackson (Suspect/Defendant), later identified by her Florida Driver's License, entered the vehicle and drove away without permission. The victim described the vehicle as a 2024 Nissan Sentra bearing Florida License Plate AL71HP, which she had rented from Enterprise Rental Car. I took all the information from the victim and stated that I would Be On the Lookout (BOLO) in the immediate vicinity for the suspect and vehicle.

The victim reported the vehicle as stolen to the Hernando County Sheriff's Department, reference case 202400247439.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., the victim waved me down again in the same area of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and School Street, explaining that the suspect had returned to the area. The victim further stated that when she attempted to recover the rental vehicle, the suspect attempted to "run her over."

At approximately 1:04 p.m., I relayed all received information to the Tampa Bay Regional Communications Center (TBRCC), which issued a BOLO for the suspect and vehicle as I continued to search the area. At approximately 1:43 p.m., the TBRCC reported a FLOCK camera hit at Mondon Hill Road and Bertram Road in the Hill & Dale area of Brooksville. I relocated to the area of the FLOCK camera hit and began canvassing for the vehicle.

At approximately 1:50 p.m., I located the suspect vehicle with the suspect in the driver's seat, stationary on the grass lot at the southeast corner of the intersection of Wakefield Drive and Dakota Drive. As I attempted to overtake the suspect vehicle, it fled, traveling east on Wakefield Drive. I initiated a vehicle pursuit, activating my emergency lights and siren. I maintained visual contact with the fleeing vehicle throughout the pursuit. The vehicle pursuit continued east on Wakefield Drive with a brief right and left turn onto Azen Loop. The fleeing vehicle then negotiated a left turn traveling north on Azen Loop and immediately executed a left turn traveling west on Thrush Avenue.

As the fleeing vehicle approached the area of 27308 Thrush Avenue, it crashed into a marked Hernando County Sheriff's Department Animal Control Unit parked facing west and a parked Ram 1500 pickup on the eastbound grass shoulder in front of 27308 Thrush Avenue.

I positioned the front of my patrol vehicle against the rear of the suspect vehicle to prevent the suspect from attempting to drive away. A Black female exited the suspect vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, running north. Hernando County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Frayer (who was in the area on an unrelated call) assisted me in physically apprehending the suspect, whose identity was confirmed as Cajetta Jackson (Defendant), Florida Driver's License, J-250-100-92-520-0, DOB 01/20/1992.

The defendant was placed under arrest and advised of her Miranda Rights as read from the card located in the front pocket of my uniform shirt. The defendant stated that she would speak with me post-Miranda.

A subsequent inventory of the stolen vehicle revealed a 0.75-liter open bottle of Hennessy Cognac sitting in the driver's seat.

All events were captured on the in-car video/audio system of FHP1418.

The defendant was taken to Tampa General Hospital, Brooksville, for medical clearance due to the vehicle crash prior to booking into the Hernando County Detention Center.
