Due to the structural failure of one of the caissons at Total energies oil rig, a safe removal was required. Previous life-extension work, including a 25mm internal liner, made the removal process more complex, as two structural members had to be secured together before they could be removed. The project was carried out in close collaboration between Total Energy's project department and SubC Partner.
A complex subsea operation carried out with precision and control. Using SubC Partner’s patented Crawler system and fully electrical tooling, the project was carried out in 5 main steps:
1. Cleaning the outside of the caisson from marine growth.
2. Drilling holes and inserting locking pins to secure the caisson and internal reinforcement together.
3. Drilling holes for later installation of underwater lifting equipment.
4. Cutting the caisson above and below water using the electrical diamond wire saw.
5. Installing the fully remote underwater lifting equipment.
A safe, efficient, and fully remote control decommissioning.
