The Indian Army has taken a major decision to further secure its eastern border. Based on a plan conceived by former Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, the Indian Army is creating Integrated Battle Groups (IBGs). Preparations for the early implementation of the Indian Army's IBG model are in their final stages, and it may be launched with the 17th Mountain Strike Corps, based in Panagarh, near the Chinese border. Each IBG is expected to be commanded by a Major General and will comprise more than 5,000 soldiers. There will be no brigade commanders within the IBGs.
