One day, I went to unload the washing machine and the top part of the agitator assembly came right out with the laundry. The culprit turned out to be a single small bolt — but fixing it wasn’t as straightforward as I expected. When I didn’t reattach it properly, the agitator came loose during the spin cycle and nearly caused much bigger damage. It also added another item to my growing repair list.
In this video, I figure out what went wrong, explain how the agitator assembly works, and walk through how to fix it correctly. This is the first video in a short series about repairing our 1998 Roper washing machine, and it turns out these older machines are surprisingly easy to work on thanks to their simple design and inexpensive replacement parts.
