Telling Textile Tales is an online conference that was broadcast from 26-28 September 2022. The conference brought together textile experts -- fashion designers, artists, entrepreneurs and teachers -- working on various aspects of textile art and design from Nigeria, Europe, North America and beyond.
The usual keynote addresses that characterize academic conferences were replaced with conversations with distinguished textile & fashion practitioners. This is a gathering of a lively online community telling their stories and tales in novel, rich and captivating ways. The recorded discussion that follows features a panel of scholars and artists presenting on the historical dimensions of textiles. This was one of many panels held during the conference. This event was funded by the British Council SSA Cultural Exchange grant 2021/2022.
