The Volvo P1800 is one of Volvo's greatest creations. Often overlooked and almost forgotten, this is the best looking car they ever produced. With killer looks and a well engineered chassis, the crew at Flash Drive Motors in Austin Texas wanted to make the performance worthy of the Volvo name badge - by swapping to all electric drivetrain.
The power plant of choice is dual hyper 9 electric motors coupled a direct output to the rear wheels. The 144 Volt system uses Tesla batteries and two motors capable of 350 lb-ft of torque.
Part 1 we cover the teardown, fabrication and restoration of the car. Which included gratuitous use of lasers.. among other things. The final Digital Blue Paint really makes the car standout and it simple application of technology makes ready for any driving condition.
Part 2 will be coming soon and we will continue by showing the EV components and road testing the finished product.
