Same-sex marriages are not legal in India. Homos exual acts were criminalized under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code until 2018, when the Supreme Court of India decriminalized homosexuality in the landmark Navtej Singh Johar v. Union of India judgment.
However, the legalization of same-sex marriages has not yet been addressed by the Indian government, and there is no legal recognition of same-sex relationships. The issue remains a topic of debate and discussion in India, with some political and social groups advocating for the legalization of same-sex marriages while others remain opposed to it.
Several LGBTQ+ individuals and activists have been campaigning for the legal recognition of same-sex marriages in India, citing the right to equality and non-discrimination under the Indian Constitution.
