STORYLINE:
World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz left his house in Washington, DC on Wednesday without speaking to reporters on the day when the bank's board was set to resume deliberations over his fate amid findings that he broke rules when he arranged a generous pay package for his girlfriend.
When asked if he was determined to stay on, Wolfowitz climbed into his waiting car without offering a reply.
Wolfowitz, accused by a special bank panel of breaking conflict-of-interest rules in his handling of the 2005 pay package of bank employee Shaha Riza, maintains that he acted in good faith.
Defending himself before the board on Tuesday, Wolfowitz said that his handling of the case did not justify any actions against him or his leadership.
The latest round of discussions takes place a day after the White House shifted its position on the case by stating that "all options are on the table" about who should lead the bank.
It was the first time the White House had indicated it would be open to Wolfowitz's departure.
