The Teacher says a good name and the day of death can be better than birth, for sorrow teaches wisdom. Patience surpasses pride, and wisdom gives protection, though no one is righteous without sin. God makes both prosperity and adversity, so we must live with humility and restraint. Human understanding is limited, and true wisdom is rare.
Better Than Gold
Ecclesiastes 7:1–4
Verse 1
A good name’s better than finest gold,
And death speaks clearer than birth foretold.
The house of mourning shapes the soul,
Where sorrow carves the heart made whole.
For laughter fades like drifting smoke,
But grief cuts deep and leaves you woke.
Chorus
In the house of wisdom, shadows fall,
Teaching truth that touches all.
Joy and sorrow, side by side—
Both reveal the heart’s true pride.
Under the sun, we learn to see
The weight of our humanity.
Patience Over Pride
Ecclesiastes 7:5–10
Verse 2
It’s better to hear the wise man’s cry
Than songs of fools that pass you by.
For anger burns in the fool’s own chest,
But patience leads a soul to rest.
Don’t say the former days were best—
That question rises from unrest.
Bridge
For who can change what God has bent?
Who knows the reason He has sent
Both peace and pain, both loss and gain—
The hand of God in sun and rain.
Chorus
In the house of wisdom, shadows fall,
Teaching truth that touches all.
Joy and sorrow, side by side—
Both reveal the heart’s true pride.
Under the sun, we learn to see
The weight of our humanity.
Wisdom’s Shelter
Ecclesiastes 7:11–14
Verse 3
Wisdom shelters like wealth can’t do,
A shade that guards and carries you.
Yet God makes both the dark and bright,
The crooked path, the straightened light.
So in the day of joy, give praise—
In troubled times, consider His ways.
Bridge
For who can change what God has bent?
Who knows the reason He has sent
Both peace and pain, both loss and gain—
The hand of God in sun and rain.
No One Without Sin
Ecclesiastes 7:15–22
Verse 4
I’ve seen the righteous fall too soon,
The wicked thrive beneath the moon.
Don’t call yourself too wise or pure—
No mortal heart can stand secure.
For none on earth is free from sin,
We all hear curses whispered in.
Chorus
In the house of wisdom, shadows fall,
Teaching truth that touches all.
Joy and sorrow, side by side—
Both reveal the heart’s true pride.
Under the sun, we learn to see
The weight of our humanity.
A dark and slow, gritty blend of rock, soul, folk, alternative, and blues, Acoustic guitar in a minor or modal key sets a dusty, reflective foundation with finger‑picking or light strums, Add warm, raspy, soul‑infused vocals that carry themes of sorrow shaping wisdom, patience over pride, and the limits of human righteousness, A steady, understated drum groove and melodic bass line give the song weight, Clean electric guitar adds atmospheric swells, bluesy bends, and gritty riffs, Subtle organ or reverb‑washed pads create an introspective, mysterious tone, The mood is earthy, wise, and weathered—honest about grief, humble before God’s sovereignty, and unafraid of tension, A sound that feels like hard‑won wisdom sung at dusk
