UNSW Computer Science and Engineering senior lecturer Hammond Pearce warns of the proliferation of realistic artificially generated images, videos, and audio.
While pen-and-paper voting may offer some protection, online chatter and content manipulation remain significant threats.
“I think there is a positive in that you know maybe we’ll start to think very critically about the information we see online,” Mr Pearce said.
Developing critical thinking skills and verifying information from trusted sources are crucial in navigating this evolving landscape.
