“When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, ‘I am God Almighty; walk before Me and be blameless. I will confirm My covenant between Me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.’
God changed his name from Abram to Abraham, meaning ‘father of many nations,’ and Sarai’s name to Sarah, promising that kings and nations would come from them.
As a sign of this everlasting covenant, God commanded Abraham and his descendants to be circumcised. Every male, born or brought into his household, was to bear this mark of belonging to the covenant.
Though Abraham was old, he believed God’s promise that Sarah would bear a son — Isaac — through whom the covenant would continue.
Genesis 17 reminds us: God’s promises never fail, and His covenant is everlasting, calling His people to walk in faith and obedience.”
