Subject: Chris Crosby Captured
Today (Saturday) at approx 1:30 p.m. Chris Crosby, the Clermont County fugitive that had been on the run for several weeks, was tracked down and taken into custody after a 2 hour pursuit that began at approx 11:30 a.m. this date on State Route 132 near Holly Hill School in Batavia Township. A citizen saw Crosby near a wooded area and called 911. A Clermont County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched and discovered Crosby in what appeared to be a make-shift camp site with a shotgun laying next to him on the ground (determined later to be loaded with deer slugs). The deputy attempted to kick the shotgun away from Crosby’s reach while restraining him. Crosby physically resisted and was able to break free. He then fled north on State Route 132. Several marked and unmarked law enforcement officers and vehicles from various jurisdictions responded to the area including: Clermont County Sheriff’s Deputies, Amelia, Pierce, New Richmond, Batavia, Bethel, Union Township, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and a Brown County Sheriff’s deputy with his canine, Assan. A track was identified and the Clermont County’s bloodhound, Buffy, and handler began the pursuit of Crosby. Thereafter, Buffy was relieved by Assan, a German Sheppard and his handler, a Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy. The canines had followed Crosby’s path of flight for about two hours until Crosby was once again visually seen near State Route 132 after circling in the wooded area to the west. The canine and officers then chased and apprehended Crosby in a creek bed near State Route 132 and Lucy Run Road. It is estimated that the track that was followed and resulted in his arrest was approx 5 - 6 miles long. Crosby was transported to the Clermont County Jail where he will be held for the charges he was facing previously, and the possibility of more that may be filed as the result of burglaries and thefts he is suspected of committing while on the run. A jail booking photo of Crosby can be obtained from Mary Gregory on Monday after 830 a.m. by calling 732-7405.
“I want to personally acknowledge and salute all my Deputies and the officers from other agencies who spent considerable time and effort over the last several weeks in this operation. On almost every day countless hours were spent searching for Crosby, following leads, and investigating criminal activity in the area of his flight. On many such days the temperatures exceeded 90 degrees, yet the professionals involved persisted sometimes well into the early morning hours with virtually no breaks in the action. I would also note the Sheriff’s Office command staff including Chief Deputy Rick Combs, and Lts. Steve Leahy and Tim Zurmehly were also actively involved in the search operations in the field and gave true meaning to our Office’s motto “Leadership by Example.” I am honored and blessed to be affiliated with all of the dedicated men and women who were involved in this important operation. Clermont County is most fortunate to have them as their protectors.”
