This video is from a 1983 Christmas Classic Game at Calihan Hall that drew more than 6,100 fans. This game shifted the whole state's view of who the No. 1 team in Michigan was after Kettering beat Southwestern in the final seconds of the game. Southwestern went on to win the City Championship and went on to play in the final state contest, losing to Flint Central. Kettering, also was knocked of the playoffs in an earlier round.
Here's a play-by-play commentary on the Christmas Game by James Jackson, Big City Sports:
"Southwestern pleaded its case for being ranked as the state's No. 1 team. Their star witness Antoine "The Judge" Joubert, the nation's No. 1 recruit. But the Supreme Court wasn't impressed with his testimony and neither were their fans. Thanks to the power moves of number 45, Robert Godbolt, and those nifty passes of guard Terry Payne, Kettering took a lead that reached as high as 9 points in the first quarter. However, Southwestern settled down and Clarence "Bill" Jones and reserve Sam Selman pushed the Prospectors to a three-point lead at halftime.
In the second half Joubert came out smoking, hitting 6 of 7 shots including one from the top of the key. But Kettering stayed close and eventually took the lead thanks to their inside play. The intense contest was decide in the last 33 seconds of the game. Joubert hit two pressure free throws to tie the game at 55 points a piece. Then with time running out, Kettering's Derrick Kearney took over. So The Supreme Court overrules The Judge. Final score Kettering 57, Southwestern 55."
