Tyne & Wear Metro, also referred to as T&W Metro or T&WM. Is a Light Rail system across the region of Tyne and Wear, operated by both Nexus and Stadler. The service runs through places such as Newcastle City Centre, Gateshead Interchange, North and South Tyneside and Sunderland City Centre. The system opened in the late 1980’s and has ran since using their old fleet, the Class 599’s/Metrocars. These trains are over 40 years old and are in the middle of being replaced by its new fleet, the Class 555. The Tyne & Wear Metro receives over 100,000 passengers on average daily.
