The strength of your hip abductors and external rotators are key for building a solid foundation to improve your balance and ability to walk safely in the community.
These muscles stabilize your pelvis when you are walking, climbing steps, lifting or carrying things like your groceries. If your hips are not strong enough, it leads to poor balance, step length and step height which results in increased episodes of loss of balance and falls.
The Clamshell exercise is an excellent way to improve the strength of your hips.
