In this P + E + N (protons, electrons, neutrons) challenge, we analyze clues such as 10 electrons, Group 5, and a mass number three times the number of protons to explore whether a single element can actually satisfy all of these conditions. This video walks you step-by-step through how to think about protons, electrons, and neutrons, how group numbers relate to valence electrons, and how the periodic table helps us evaluate atomic clues.
You’ll learn how to apply concepts like mass number, atomic number, octet rule, and electron configuration to test whether the information given leads to a real atom, or whether the clues are contradictory. Instead of identifying a specific element, the goal is to reason scientifically: Can an atom in Group 5 have 10 total electrons? Would its mass number realistically be triple its protons? Are these clues consistent with known periodic trends?
