For April 1st this year, I decided to destroy objects with Primate Punch. Expand Description for more info.
What does this include?
Knocking down all walls/gates and destroying things that require Primate Punch.
What about the following?
K. Rool - Does not get destroyed (it's actually Funky that does the destroying), and would've been boring.
Toy Monster Switch - Does not get destroyed, also boring.
Museum Switches - Do not get destroyed.
Why TAS this category?
My brother gave me the idea of "Property Damage%" which sounds cool, but would have required a whole lot of debating about what should count and what shouldn't. He was mainly interested in Chunky's Primate Punch, so I stuck with just Primate Punch and causing "property damage". I also saw some artwork online of Re:Zero's Emilia doing the Pepe Punch pose, and I figured it had to be destiny. So I made the thumbnail and resigned myself to this idea for this year's April 1st TAS.
Why don't you destroy other things like Rambi Huts, Diddy Gate in Mountain, etc.?
The short version is that the more I got into trying to define what is and isn't property, the murkier the waters got. There's a lot to discuss here, so maybe I'll make a follow-up video where I just yap about what was taken into consideration.
Why did you plagiarize footage from Ballaam?
I got his consent first, you can ask him.
The house warp from Orange Barrel that Ballaam got in his NLE TAS is extremely hard to pull off. I spent over 10 hours on it and couldn't get it. I asked Ballaam about it and he also says it's extremely difficult and that it took him weeks to perform. I didn't have that kind of time, so I asked him if he would be okay with me using his footage for it. He told me "Go for it". I made sure to credit him as this would not have been possible without him.
Why did you keep the Giant Kosha cutscene at the end?
Because I like to think it completes the storyline. Chunky goes around breaking things that presumably belong to K. Rool, but he doesn't even acknowledge it in the run. But in Caves? You KNOW the Giant Kosha calls this place home and he's PISSED that Chunky is destroying his walls.
Why are you using such an old version of Bizhawk?
Without getting too technical, the newer versions emulate DK64 worse than the older version that I used. If you play on the newer versions of Bizhawk, you will notice that large chunks of worlds like Galleon, Caves, and Castle will be missing until you try to "enter" the missing chunk, at which point the missing chunk will load and the previous chunk will now be missing. It's really annoying visually and it just isn't worth using.
