Ruth sings an Elizabethan lament called The Death of Queen Jane, which tells the story of Jane Seymour, the third wife of Henry VIII, who gave birth to Henry's son Edward in 1537. Queen Jane's labour had been so long drawn out that she died twelve days later.
The song was probably written not long after the events it describes, but it was only first published 300 years later in Francis Child's folk song collection The English and Scottish Popular Ballads.
