Foggy Mountain Top - written by unknown author - performed by Jerry Short and The Unsung Heroes

Описание: One of the important bylines of the Unsung Heroes mission statement is to coordinate with and promote many songs and artists who may not be nationally known but definitely have world-class quality. Jerry Short has been my musical partner for pushing 40 years. We have traveled back and forth across this 3000 mile nation many, many times in taking our duo show from Maine to L.A. and with stops nearly everywhere in between. Importantly, these tours were always conducted in one of a few vintage blue Chevy vans that we rotated into service over those years. We truly were road warriors for many years running.

The Short Brothers (as we have been known since the mid 1980s) combined their diverse musical interests and backgrounds and created a unique blend of rock, blues, country, bluegrass and even Irish music and played literally thousands of shows together in every setting and gig environment you can imagine. From hard-edge barroom brawl gigs to ocean-front pool bars, to small concerts, coffee houses, house concerts as well as festival gigs, no event was too big or too small for the Short Brothers. And with our unique repertoire, along with our vocal and instrumental agility, we nearly always found the common ground with whatever the audience was looking for. There are not a whole lot of bands that can easily pull off a full night of blues, classic rock, country or (in this case) hard driving bluegrass music.

With that in mind, here's the bluegrass standard "Foggy Mountain Top". While it was not originally written by Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs, though their version made it famous in the bluegrass world.
The song dates back to the 1920s and is generally credited to the Carter Family, who first recorded it in 1929. It’s attributed to A.P. Carter, though like many folk songs of the era, it likely drew on older traditional roots and melodies passed down orally. Many music historians refer to this as a traditional song however.

So while Flatt & Scruggs helped make "Foggy Mountain Top" a bluegrass classic, the songwriting credit often goes to A.P. Carter, although he likely compiled most of the song as a result of the 'folk process' and because he was really the first to record it, he has been credited as the author.

So enjoy the Short Brothers, with the Unsung Heroes... along with Lonesome Dave Kiphuth on banjo and Betsy Green on fiddle and vocals as we traverse the "Foggy Mountain Top".
