Yes, labor can look similar in some ways. But there’s a big difference when it comes to how babies (or calves) are born.

In human births, we usually see the head come first.

In cows, a normal presentation means front feet first, followed by the head. So when you see hooves appearing, that’s exactly what we want to see!

And that’s why in many cases, it’s perfectly safe and correct to WAIT while a cow gives birth. Jumping in too early without a reason can actually cause more harm than good.
