Syd Barrett guitar tone in brief. Selmer Treble & Bass is what I call The Syd Barrett Amp, And it's the true guitar tone of early Pink Floyd (Piper). Although David Gilmour (Amazing player as we all know and love) Replaced syd later down the road, did not however... Replicate syds guitar tone and feel, Due to a few reasons: David's personality & choice of gear, His sound&tone source is Fender Strats into Hiwatt amps. Syd's setup: Fender Esquier/Danelectro into Selmer amps. Both guitarist have this in common: They both played there amps Very LOUD!!. I've owned both Hiwatt & Selmer, They do not sound alike. Hiwatts are brutally loud! And have a strong clean sound loud. Selmer treble & Bass have a nice clean sound and when cranked up gives a rather throaty tone, think Interstellar Overdrive. So hope you enjoyed my little brief info on early Syd/Floyd tone.
