Wordless workshop tips and tricks for your Ironhead XL Sportster. Used copper head gaskets can be used over and over again many times if they are annealed. New copper gaskets are usually shipped in the 1/2 hard state which really means they are hard. New and used gaskets will be returned to the “dead soft” state by annealing and they will seal much better. You will notice how easily they bend after annealing. A solution of white vinegar and salt will dissolve the scale that forms during the annealing process and have them soft and shinning in about 30 minutes.
