This is a quick look at a solar electric vehicle coming from two former Lightyear employees in the Netherlands. It fills a very specific niche for now, either as a ride-sharing vessel or as a city commuter for short low-speed trips. You can even get it without doors and air conditioning, almost like a solar-powered golf cart, for about $6,600, though this only includes 2 of the 4 battery packs which gets you about 31 miles of total range (still up to 20 miles solar range daily). Buy the additional 2 battery packs, and it may one day be eligible for approximately $3000 off with the federal tax credit, bringing the price of this solar-powered slow-speed 2-seater (with up to 62 miles of range on a single charge), down to about $3600 + the cost of the 2 battery packs, which I am still trying to find out from the company. Until 2023, the federal tax credit was $2500 (minimum 5kWh battery pack) + $417 per kWh in excess of 5kWh.

If a 4-seater version of this vehicle were available with comfortable maximum speed of about 55 per hour, with a production facility in the United States, I would certainly be willing to pay about $15,000 for this vehicle after any available federal tax credits (which would mean a starting price of about $18,000 delivered). Leave a comment if this concept would interest you, either as a slow 2-seater with or without doors, or as a future 4-seater. What specifications would be deal-breakers for you? What would you be willing to pay for it?

Unfortunately, I do feel that production and US delivery of the SQUAD L7 (4-seater) is likely to be delayed until around the same time that the Aptera 4-seater would be in production, which I would estimate would be about 2030.
