UAG CIVILIAN Watch Strap Review - Great UNTIL the end...why Urban Armor Gear?

The Civilian Watch strap basically straddles the void between the Apple Silicone Strap and a normal strap because you get the best of both worlds.

At MREH, Monty and I base our reviews on actual usage. With watch straps, it means we have to use them.

The first thought that comes into my mind when it comes to UAG products is BOLD and BULKY! BOLD and BULKY! BOLD and BULKY!

Even their active watch strap is BOLD and BULKLY. But this strap is not. This UAG strap is going to make it into my weekly rotation.

The strap is made from silicone with a soft touch finish so it’s not as aggressive as some of the knock off straps I have BUT has a bit more texture than the standard silicone Apple Watch strap. It’s tacky enough that tucking the strap may be mildly annoying.

The strap also has a bit more give than the Apple Watch strap which may be a problem when I do the kettlebell test.

UAG claims that the silicone is anti-microbial BUT this feature only occurs on the box and not the website so who knows. This two color strap has UAG’s signature orange color and blue or black. The orange isn’t as outrages as UAG’s silicone Apple AirPod’s case which is nice. The inside of the strap has a honey comb pattern which exists on the inside of the civilian case.

Unlike the Apple Watch Silicone strap, UAG went with a normal stainless steel buckle and a tuck enclosure which is why I say it’s the best of both worlds. You get the rock solid security of a buckle without an annoying strap and free loop.

What stands out for me is the buckle. UAG uses their own custom hardware which is nice BUT the tapered edges give the buckle an awesome and unique look. Most companies use a non-descript buckle or a buckle with their logo on it BUT UAG goes the extra distance from my perspective.

The strap will accommodate wrists with a circumference between 15-20 cm.

When it comes to the fit of the product, I didn’t notice a difference in terms of lug looseness between the Civilian strap and a Apple product. There tends to be a bit more give with silicone lugs when compared to the metal ones.

I will note that one of the static parts of the lug came off when I tried using the strap for the first time.

When it comes to using the strap, it fits between a normal strap and the Apple Watch Silicone strap/Nike straps. Why? Because it easier to workout with because it flexes with your wrist when you’re moving, something that my Archer strap doesn’t do which was the last strap I reviewed.

BUT the strap is much sweatier to use. Apple’s Silicone watch strap has a slight dip on the inside of the case so it’s not making contact with your 100% of the time. There’s room to breath for your wrist. On the Civilian case, there isn’t. It sits flat on your wrist. Good thing it’s silicone as you can wipe it down quick after a workout so that you don’t suffer from “moist wrist”.

I had no issues using the strap while working and typing on my laptop as the silicone conformed to whatever surface I was using without any issues.
