Sura Susso (kora) and Max Baillie (violin) live in concert, November 15th 2011, Chats Palace, London, UK.
Their concerts are based on a dialogue between their respective string traditions, both dating back centuries, and their set includes a mixture of repertoire from both. Beyond a few set melodies what they do is entirely improvised, each reacting to the other in the moment, violin and kora, Max and Sura together in dialogue. They draw on bardic folk pieces from West Africa in the above excerpts including Jalia, Kankassi, and Baroque dance music, including Tarquinio Merula, Jean-Baptiste Lully.
