In the past decade as technology and our use of small screens exploded, April Whiting realized that her four children were addicted to technology and screens – and she was too. Her family was living "alone together," isolated by technology. She detoxed her family from those ubiquitous devices, and spent 6 months screen-free in her home. To her relief, not only did her family survive, her children thrived as they reconnected with actual toys and hands-on activities. April eventually reintroduced technology into her home, but with newly discovered strategies and insight that any parent can use to help their family find safety and balance with technology. April Whiting is a certified screen safety educator. April gives presentations in schools, and communities on the effects of too much technology and how to raise our children in this digital world. She has also taught alongside law enforcement to educate and empower parents and communities.
April’s most important job is being a wife, and a mother to her four boys. Her children are her driving force for wanting to help families and communities. She is determined to help inform and educate as many people as possible. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
