On Tuesday, March 26, 2024, the Kurdish Peace Institute convened a webinar on political and security challenges in northeast Syria five years after the U.S.-led Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh and the Syrian Democratic Forces declared the territorial defeat of the ISIS caliphate in March 2019.
Speakers discussed the outcomes of the counter-ISIS campaign and the state of the U.S.-SDF partnership in northeast Syria today. They also shed light on what can be done to ensure that ISIS does not return — and to bring about an end to the interlocking regional conflicts impacting northern Syria that increasingly threaten the interests of the U.S. and its partners and allies alike.
