In terms of number of platforms Howrah Railway Station is the largest station. It’s 23 platforms are serving more than a million passengers. In terms of platform length, On 6 October 2013, Gorakhpur became the world's longest railway platform, after inauguration of the remodelled Gorakhpur Yard, with a stretch of around 1.34 kilometres (0.84 mi). Here is a list of Railway stations of India with highest number of platforms.

1. Howrah Junction - 23 Platforms

Howrah Railway Station is the busiest railway stations in terms of passenger volume per day and its 23 platforms are serving more than a million passengers. Howrah Junction also has largest number of railway platforms in India and one of the busiest railway platforms too.


2. Sealdah Railway Station - 20 Platforms

Sealdah railway station is an important suburban rail terminal serving Kolkata city with 20 platforms. The North terminals of Sealdah has 13 platforms and South section consists with 7 platforms.


3. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus - 18 Platforms

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) formerly known as Victoria Terminus is a historic railway station and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus has 18 bay platforms, 11 platforms are for long distance out-station trains and 7 are for local suburban trains. CST is the largest train terminus in Mumbai and an historic railway station with world heritage site status.


4. New Delhi Railway Station - 16 Platforms

It is the fourth busiest Railway Station in the country in terms of frequency of trains after Kanpur Central, Vijayawada Junction and Delhi Junction and most busiest Railway station in India in terms of passenger movement. Around 185 trains starts, ends or passes through the station daily and handles 500,000 passengers daily with 16 platforms.



5. Chennai Central - 15 Platforms

Chennai Central railway station is one of the most important railway hubs in South India and also main hub for the Chennai Suburban Railway. Chennai station has 15 railway platforms to handle long-distance trains with 3 platforms exclusively for suburban trains
