The Giant African Millipede, Archispirostreptus gigas, is the largest species of millipede. Found in Africa, these millipedes are docile and eat fruits, vegetables and decaying organic matter. When threatened they curl up into a coil and can secrete a liquid that can be harmful if ingested or rubbed into the eyes. Washing your hands will get rid of this liquid.
This millipede can be seen moving, crawling around and eating. I also look at a preserved millipede to see features under the microscope such as the eyes (ocelli), antennae and legs. The magnification of each shot is shown at the bottom right hand corner.
