German engineers are a special kind of crazy, only Mercedes could cook up a 671 horsepower AMG performance drivetrain that uses a 2.0L four-cylinder, an e-assisted turbocharger, two motor/generators, and two transmissions. Yep, there's a 9-speed up front, a 2-speed in the trunk, and everything is tied together by a 6 kWh battery that makes use of Mercedes F1 tech. When everything comes together you get roughly 20% better real-world fuel economy than a BMW X3 M despite similar performance numbers and as a bonus you get a tiny blip of EV range. How tiny? Just one mile. Yep, this is the shortest-range PHEV in America! Yay?
