The EU created an import tariff on raw aluminium, designed to protect European aluminium producers. The problem is, this hasn't been effective: we've lost 30% of our production capacity in the last two decades.

The same import tariff that was designed to protect the producers also made the raw material more costly for the downstream. Between 1 and 2 billion euros per year!
