This is the popular bass German drinking song. It shows off the singer's low F. It's not so much that an F is so low. A lot of Verdi bass arias like Il Lacerato Spirito end on a low F. But Teifen Keller has a dozen low Fs.
It was written by Mozart's first Osmin Ludwig Fischer. He said that after Mozart died there was nobody around to write appropriate music for his very low voice. He wrote it as a showcase for his bottom notes.
The problem is that in Mozart's day concert pitch was lower than it is today. Today orchestras tune to A=440Hz or even higher. In the eithteeneth century it was A = 221Hz or A=222.5Hz. So this little song meant to show off the singer's low notes is about a semitone too high.
So in order to rediscover what this song was meant to sound like, I have transposed it down from F major to E major. It's easier for me to sing in this key.
