Plantain Fritters are a delicious West African (and Caribbean) snack or breakfast dish made by mashing ripe plantains and mixing them with a spiced batter, then frying them until golden and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. They're a popular way to use overripe plantains and are known for their sweet-savory flavor, crunchy edges, and fluffy center.
What Are Plantain Fritters?
Plantain fritters are similar in concept to akara (bean cakes), but instead of flour or beans as the base, they use ripe plantains. They're also sometimes called Plantain Akara, Tatale (in Ghana), or simply fried mashed plantains depending on the region.
